March 2011 brought even more fun. Just as we were getting a handle on Kyla's condition, we decided to go to school a year earlier than we originally were thinking. We were pregnant with #3 and dealing with health issues. We were kind of in shock. Once we decided, Brandon had an entire week to finish preparing for the GMAT. Then we had the first part of April to get all our applications in for two MBA programs. Most MBA programs had deadlines that had already passed. Luckily, two of the places we wanted to go the most:
AND
were still accepting applications! We worked our behinds off for two weeks to get everything written and submitted in time to be considered for admittance.
Both schools had pros and cons. Texas A&M had the advantage of being a different school than Brandon's undergrad, plus it was in Texas. That meant it was more likely we would be able to keep our house and get another job in the Fort Worth area. Plus we had heard many awesome things about the school and the alumni base. Brandon REALLY enjoyed his campus visit and was excited about the opportunity. BYU had the fantastic benefit of being close to my family. It also had the added bonus of being extremely inexpensive and... my favorite college in the whole world. I was kind of hoping to not be admitted to one of the two schools so that the decision would be made for us. When the time came to decide it was a really tough call. I kind of let Brandon make the final call (mostly because I am a terrible decision maker). He chose BYU. And so the house-selling process began!
